the following six recreated longer background pans are from shorts of three major studios, DISNEY, WARNER BROTHERS and MGM. it’s interesting to compare the different styles and painting techniques – watercolor and gouache.

Great examples. The differences in design approaches couldn’t be clearer. The accurate depiction of real-world light and perspective is strongly present in the Disney BGs, and shows itself through the veil of design and stylization.

In the WB backgrounds, there’s an unapologetic play on perspective and lighting that just fits the wacky nature of their characters.

WB was famous for their gangster pictures, and there’s a lot of it coming through their backgrounds. Beautiful recreation job.
