Pink and blue seems to be the rule all over “Cinderella”.
Yellow’s nowhere to find.

The Bgs of the palace n the tower (where cinderella lives) has a stark visual contrast in terms of the lighting, colors, as well as the lines n forms used in both, where the palace has a festive feeling (with smooth forms), the tower has the gloomy isolated dull feeling (with rough forms). Somehow the bgs seen here looks different frm the movie, like more artistic, its due to the absence of animation i guess.

I haven’t been the biggest fan of Cinderella’s art direction and styling. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the film, but these bg recreations have me wanting to take another look.

Lately, they’re a dime a dozen.. And I’m not knocking it. But there’s a whole lot of this stuff out there these days. I’m certainly not uninformed (I own 9 original Mary Blair paintings and visited both her and her husband and son in person over the decades. Oh, and Lee’s brother, Preston, too).

Her art was a means to an end, and the ideas tell stores and inspire other and better ideas. Most of the “faux” Mary Blair these days is limited in the idea department–very surface, and frankly tiresome. It’s fun to look back, but time to look forward.
