another beautiful russian soyuzmultfilm production is the 1957 released THE SNOW QUEEN, directed by LEV ATAMANOV. the traditionally animated feature film follows the hans christan andersen pretty close, what slows it down very often. but overall it has a real fairy tale athmosphere and the animation is beautiful. following are some recreated longer pans and captured scenes. there will be more…

some of these stills made me think of moebius drawings, with the crystals and the drawings of the queens face. thanks again for introducing more totally unknown and stunning art to me!

Saw this about 15 years ago on tv. I taped it on video. I love it.

Here is a modern version of The Snow Queen from award-winning Ukrainian artist Vladyslav Yerko.

I wouldn’t call it modern. it is oldfashioned and overworked. the images don’t leave any room
for the imagination of a child. the tons of details and textures kill the readability and remind
me of CG animation. sorry, nothing for me.

I like the look of the town a lot in these, and the last 4 are an interesting study in different light settings!
