mulan findings 1

you probably have made that same experience – you search for something and find tons of stuff way more interesting than what you were looking for. it took a long time since my archives has grown too big, but it was worth it. you will see a lot of it in my next posts. today I start with some of my oldest MULAN color designs, from 1995, a mushu cel set-up and a directional map with sequence numbers.

I knew the upper painting from the Mulan Artbook.beautiful !
There is a sort of a comedy note in the map drawing;
A famous french magazine “positif”,said about Mulan :
-this movie proves that Disney is still abble to rediscover art –
This may sound a bit haughty but it’s a great compliment .
hope you follow my bad english (I use google translate!)

from hans –
you are right about the comedy, etienne. it could have been such a funny film…
the comment in that magazine is a big compliment, I had not heard about it. thank you

“Positif” is a french film magazine founded in 1952. It often acted as a counterpoint to “Cahier du cinéma”,another well-known french film journal

Wow this is gold! I’ve always had a really tough time figuring out the map of where what happens and how to draw it out. Is there any secret to it?
